Intraocular lenses, or IOL’s, are the artificial lenses used to replace the natural lens of the eye when it is removed either due to a cataract, or because the patient has chosen to have a refractive lens exchange procedure. With the advanced technology of today’s multifocal and accommodating intraocular lenses, it is possible for patients, after undergoing cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange, to greatly reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

After a comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Violin and his highly experienced staff consult with each patient to discuss their surgical options. Careful consideration of each patient’s lifestyle, needs, expectations, and personal eye health is used to determine the best course of surgical treatment.

With the current intraocular lens technology offered by the Tecnis Multifocal intraocular lens, the Crystalens accommodating intraocular lens, and the Restor multifocal intraocular lens, it is possible for patients to see well at distance, intermediate, and near focal points after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery. For those patients with significant amounts of astigmatism, the Acrysof Toric intraocular lens makes it possible to reduce or eliminate the astigmatism, and improve uncorrected distance vision.
