Tecnis Multifocal

Tecnis IOL Dr. Violin is pleased to offer his patients the Tecnis Multifocal IOL, as an alternative to traditional monofocal intraocular lenses. Patients undergoing cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange (RLE) no longer have to settle for monofocal IOL’s, lenses that provide good distance vision, but with limited ability to provide good vision at near without glasses.

The Tecnis Multifocal lens technology is designed to provide a full range of vision, near, distance, and intermediate-after cataract treatment, or refractive lens exchange. The Tecnis Multifocal lens not only treats cataracts, but it may also turn back the clock to bring back much of your ability to see up close, as well as at distance, both day and night.

The Tecnis Multifocal lens has multiple focal points enabling you to see well at a variety of distances in varying light conditions. If you have been diagnosed with cataracts or are considering RLE, and desire a full range of vision with increased independence from glasses or bifocals, the Tecnis Multifocal lens may be the right solution for you.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tecnis Multifocal

Will I still need to wear glasses after my Tecnis Multifocal procedure?

The results will vary depending on your vision, lifestyle, and the anatomy of your eyes. Some people find that they need glasses to read very fine print, or sometimes to drive at night. Most people, however, can go about their day’s activities without depending on glasses. In a clinical study, 93.8% of patients receiving the Tecnis Multifocal lens were able to function without glasses at all distances, near, far, and in between.

How is the Tecnis Multifocal lens different from traditional monofocal intraocular lenses?

The Tecnis IOL is a multifocal intraocular lens. Unlike traditional monofocal (single vision) lens implants, the Tecnis Multifocal lens provides quality vision at all distances-near(reading), intermediate(computer use or cooking), and far(driving).Traditional monofocal lenses usually provide good vision at distance, however, they do not have the ability to focus on objects that are near or at midrange.

How long after surgery will it be until I see my best?

As with most procedures, this depends on the overall health of your eye. For most people, vision is noticeably better by the next day and often sooner. Vision continues to improve during the first few weeks after the procedure.
